The band began with an intimate soundcheck session, separated from the audience by only a one-foot-high platform. Even in casual clothing, performing snippets of songs, they were already firing up the crowd before transforming into full rock stars once the show officially began.

Following a performance by Austin-based punk band Big Bill, TsuShiMaMiRe returned to the stage to thunderous applause. Dressed in their performance outfits, they launched straight into their opening song, drawing the audience just inches from the stage and leaving all the tables abandoned.

As they settled in, the band introduced themselves. Celebrating 26 years together, they highlighted drummer Maiko Takagi, who was making her first U.S. appearance, followed by a skillful drum solo. Next, lead singer Mari Kono introduced bassist Yayoi Tsushima, who answered with a solo and one of the many high kicks of the night. Finally, Mari introduced herself before letting out a heavy yell that launched the band back into the music.

Throughout the night, the audience headbanged and shouted along with the lyrics. With the intimate setup, bassist Yayoi Tsushima even stepped into the crowd, erasing any remaining distance between artist and fan and creating a shared sense of unity—everyone was there simply to enjoy good music.

As the night drew to a close, the band ended their final song with a heartfelt farewell: “Arigato! We are TsuShiMaMiRe!” While they left the stage, the energy lingered, buzzing through the room as fans chanted, “One more song!” “¡Otra, otra!” and even asked, “How do you say one more song in Japanese?”

The fans’ persistence paid off. The band returned for one last, unforgettable encore at The Lonesome Rose. Dedicating the final song to Mari Kono’s grandfather and Ozzy Osbourne, the bar once again erupted with heavy riffs, yells, and headbanging. The night closed with one last collective strum and drum hit—an ode to Ozzy that surely reached him.

Though the performance ended, TsuShiMaMiRe promised the crowd they would be back. If you missed them this time, do not worry—they will return to Texas soon. Catch them next time in Austin at Hotel Vegas on September 19.
