Fazerdaze is a singer-songwriter from New Zealand known for her dreamy melodies, indie pop charm, and shoegaze-inspired influence. She first gained recognition with her self-titled debut EP and her 2017 debut album Morningside, praised by critics for its distinctive sound and honest reflections on friendship and self-discovery.

After a seven-year hiatus, Fazerdaze returned with Soft Power, an album centered on reclaiming one’s strength after it has been lost. The single “Bigger” serves as a bittersweet farewell, with wistful melodies that capture both longing and nostalgia.

“We’re caught between / This life and dream / But you and me, we’re bigger / Let’s try to figure this out.”

“Bigger” reflects the push and pull of holding onto something while trying to move forward, aligning with the album’s overarching themes of identity, vulnerability, and healing.

In late May, Fazerdaze announced a U.S. tour set for this fall, including five headlining shows alongside tour dates with iconic alt-rock acts Pixies and Spoon. On September 5, Fazerdaze opened for the Pixies at Austin’s Moody Amphitheater, delivering a short but unforgettable set.

She performed fan favorites such as “Lucky Girl,” “Cherry Pie,” and “Come Apart,” immersing the audience in a dreamy, nostalgic atmosphere. For a brief moment, the set felt expansive, as if time paused and the crowd was suspended in a dreamlike trance. A warm, enchanting calm radiated from the speakers as “Bigger” began to play.

Between songs, Dave Rowlands, Fazerdaze’s guitarist, took a brief moment to thank Spoon, saying:

“I just want to give a massive shout-out in particular to your hometown hero Spoon! Spoon on this tour have been like big brothers to us. They really looked after us as a support act, and we just wanted to give a huge heartfelt thank you to those guys—they’ve been so great to us.”

It was a sincere moment that highlighted the bonds built on the road, serving as a reminder of why Fazerdaze’s presence, both musically and personally, continues to resonate so deeply.

Before wrapping up the set, Fazerdaze thanked the Pixies for their support and generosity throughout the tour. She also shared a behind-the-scenes story that gave the crowd a glimpse into their companionship offstage:

“I’m going to cherish this T-shirt forever,” she said, smiling. “I did a merch swap with Joey from the Pixies, so he’s got a Fazerdaze shirt and I’ve got a Pixies one. This means a lot to me.”

It was a small, heartfelt moment that spoke volumes. As the crowd cheered, she turned her gratitude to them:

“Have an awesome night, and thanks again for being a very sweet audience.”

With that, the crowd erupted in applause—a fitting end to a set full of sincerity and connection.
