A new friendship has grown within a tour across three stops in Texas with Jeremy Passion and Josh Sahunta. From having similar careers living in different states, both singers crossed paths to join on this tour.

Indie-pop singer Josh Sahunta, was born and raised in Alberta, Canada and now lives in Nashville, Tennessee. Sahunta creates music with a similar sound comparison to artists such as Ed Sheeran and John Mayer.

“I’ve always made music and it’s (for most of my life) always been a hobby and something I did on the side,” Sahunta said.

Sahunta studied clinical psychology while also pursuing music throughout his time at college. After working in his field for two years, he also released his first album which kicked off his music career.

“That album started charting on national radio and getting placed in a few different Netflix shows. It was a bit of a slow burn, but it got to the point where I was getting busier with music than I was with my other job,” Sahunta said.

After finding a steady income in music, Sahunta left his full-time job and fully pursued music in 2020. Since then, Sahunta found himself on a Texas tour with Jeremy Passion.

Jeremy Monaldo, better known as Jeremy Passion, originally from San Francisco, California, and currently lives in the Dallas-Forth Worth Area, started his career in the early 2000s uploading his music to early music internet sites like LimeWire, Napster, and YouTube.

“I wrote a song called Lemonade, which is one of my signature songs that got me started as a songwriter,” Passion said. “Since then, I’ve been doing music as a full-time career and still doing it till this day.”

After being informed of their tour across Texas, the artists met on the first day of their tour in Dallas, Texas.

“It wasn’t really our tour and show to begin with,” Passion said. “It was actually an other artist that was booked for these specific venues and because of something that happened like a health situation, she couldn't do the shows but the venues were already booked.”

Passion and Sahunta’s managers knew one another and were reached out by the other performers' manager and connected both artists together for their three day tour.

“I’m sure by the end of the weekend we’ll be pretty good friends,” Sahunta said.

Looking towards the grand scheme of things, Sahunta and Passion both have reasons as to why music is important to the contemporary world.

“I feel music brings people together and I think there’s just a lot of division in the world right now and it’s a scary place to live in this world at times,” Sahunta said. “I feel music is one of the final things that regardless of people's viewpoints, we can all meet together and enjoy music.”

To Passion, music is something he loves and enjoys and goes beyond just a career.

“I think aside from self expression and art, I think without art and without being able to put that out into the world, there wouldn’t be as much color in the world,” Passion said. “Regardless of race, politics or where we come from or believe in, sometimes music is that connecting factor and is the one thing that we end up having in common.”

As the Texas tour wraps up, music is still in the works for both artists. Sahunta has a new album coming out at the beginning of next year that shares the vulnerable story of how he has struggled with having support as a South Asian musician as his parents wanted him to pursue a career in the medical field.

“It’s some of the most honest songs I’ve ever written,” Sahunta said. It's just about my experience being South Asian and not having much support for pursuing music for most of my life and how that affected me.”

Despite existing within two different genres, the two musicians, now friends, continue to make make music through their own platforms.
