Los Retros long awaited arrival to Houston's own House Of Blues

Houston, TX - California based Musical Project Los Retros performed in Houston, TX’s very own House of Blues this past Sunday. While not a part of any named promoted tour, Los Retros was nonetheless making their way throughout the U.S. from Oxnard, California.
Los Retros was originally composed of three members; one being still front man/founder, Mauri Tapia. Although Mauri is credited as a solo act, this tour features additional members: lead bassist Taiki Tsuyama, keyboardist Jonah Huang and Mauri’s own brother Brian Tapia on drums. All here to get Houston in the ripe mood for a night they wouldn't forget.
The venue was filled to the brim with eager fans, conversations and laughter echoing throughout the room, eagerly waiting to see Los Retros take the main stage. The air was charged with excitement as the opening band left the stage, each passing minute building tension as the crowd fixed their eyes to the stage. Finally, the hour struck, and Los Retros took the stage. The crowd cheered, gathering closely to the stage as Mauri fixed his guitar. Taiki followed suit, checking if his bass was in tune, while Brian, and Jonah took their respective seats. Finally, the lights shined and the music began.
The first song began with no words spoken, just a funky, almost jazz-like melody filled the room, immediately setting the upbeat mood. Front and center, Mauri could be seen almost dancing in place, swaying back and forth with a big smile. It was clear he genuinely loved the music he was playing. His energy was contagious, drawing the crowd closer and closer. The song was given no title, just music and energy to be heard live. The fans' reception was diverse; some were in awe, taking all the sounds in, while others moved their bodies back and forth, similar to Mauri. Regardless, there was an undeniable appreciation for the music that was being played. Nearly everyone shared the same grin as they nodded their heads, as if silently thinking the same thing, “wow,” while soaking in the experience.
Before the first song's notes could fully fade away, the fans cheered and clapped louder than ever before. Los Retros followed, just as the fans' cheers faded away, the music started right back up, the same vibes from the previous song were infecting everyone once again. The song, similar to the one preceding, was once again not given a title, just music meant to be experienced in the moment. Mauri once again could be seen dancing in place to the funky jazz-like beat as Taiki and Jonah continued to play along, matching his energy. Brian was the glue holding the groove together. Genuine smiles could be seen across the members' faces as they saw fans cheering and enjoying themselves. As the music finally concluded and the fans cheered, Mauri finally spoke, greeting Houston in its entirety. He then went down the list introducing his fellow mates who would be joining him for the rest of the evening, praising them with love and appreciation.
Mauri then proceeded to take off his guitar and approach his keyboard rack. He explained that this next song was a collaboration song titled “Before You Go” released March 26, 2025, by Japanese singer songwriter Hitomitoi, from her album Telepa Telepa
When the beat dropped, and the music began to play, the cold outside air that wafted in, was replaced with heat emitted from the fans it was a sign that the venue was ready for more Los Retros.
