Chanpan Supporting Post Animal
Written by Quenton Hua | December 23, 2025
Chanpan made their Austin debut on Dec. 6, bringing their genre-bending blend of alt-pop, bossa nova, and electronic beats to eager fans and curious newcomers alike. The Asian American trio, Grace, Lance, and Matthew delivered a set where dreamy melodies and genre-hopping instrumentation provided the backdrop for vulnerable storytelling. Since releasing their first track, "Jungle," in 2023, the band has steadily built momentum, transforming from emerging New York artists into a nationally touring act. Now on their second tour, and opening for Post Animal throughout December, Chanpan is proving their sound resonates far beyond their home base.
The atmosphere at The Parish shifted the moment the trio took the stage, transforming a room of mostly Post Animal fans into an attentive audience. While many attendees were unfamiliar with Chanpan's catalog, a handful of dedicated supporters scattered throughout the venue wore "Chanpan's Little Meatball" shirts, singing along from the first note. Grace, Lance, and Matthew carried themselves with an energetic, almost effortless stage presence. No theatrical gestures or forced energy, just three musicians locked in to their craft. They cycled through most of their catalog, delivering fan favorites with the same care as newer material, and even premiered "Buzzin," an unreleased track set to drop early next year.
What made the performance compelling wasn't just the music itself, but the vibrant energy and synergy the trio brought to the stage. Grace engaged directly with the crowd between songs, her charisma turning the performance into a conversation rather than a presentation. She moved seamlessly between lead vocals and guitar, even taking over the drums for a segment that drew cheers from the audience. Lance and Matthew played the guitar and drums throughout the set, their versatility adding depth to the trio's sound. They smiled at inside jokes and maintained the kind of relaxed energy that made the technical precision of their playing seem effortless. It's the kind of chemistry that can't be manufactured.
This Austin performance marks just one stop on Chanpan's December tour, but it offered a glimpse of a band ready to expand their reach. Their sound, which pulls from unexpected places like breakcore alongside alt-pop, Bossa nova, and electronic influences, translates remarkably well to live settings, where the trio's musical experimentation truly comes alive. "Buzzin," drops in early 2026, capping off a remarkable stretch for the trio. Their December tour showcased a band that's found its footing and is ready to claim more ground in 2026.
