IVE Makes Their Mark at the Moody Center

On a bright and sunny day in Texas, droves of fans gathered at the Moody Center for IVE’s first-ever Austin concert. The superstar K-Pop girl group, which consists of members Gaeul, An Yujin, Rei, Jang Wonyoung, Liz, and Leeseo, is currently on their second world tour, the “Show What I Am” tour.
In true K-Pop concert fashion, the fun started before the artists took the stage. Between the excitement of buying limited-edition merch or trading collectible photo-cards with other fans, there was no shortage of elation in anticipation of the doors opening. I even got a couple of freebies from roaming fans eager to share their love for their favorite artist.

IVE is wildly popular domestically, as demonstrated by the massive South Korean and Korean American presence in the audience, which I’ve noticed once before at IU’s concert in Washington, D.C. That isn’t to say the group’s Western fanbase was absent, but it was truly a testament to their popularity both abroad and at home.
The concert was divided into three major sections:
The first section showcased IVE’s hard-hitting, “girl-crush” discography as they flew through “GOTCHA,” “XOXZ,” and “Baddie” in all-black, leather outfits. Affectionately dubbed the “club bangers,” this beginning energized DIVES (IVE’s fan club) and felt like a proper introduction to those seeing them for the first time. IVE’s angelic voices blended with the impassioned cheers of the crowd, creating a new kind of harmony one can only achieve at a live performance.
As the concert progressed, there was a brief VCR break, but soon after, IVE launched right into their solo numbers. Each member carried a different feel and concept that kept each performance captivating and a little bit more interesting than the last. While Rei’s song was cuteness overload, Yujin’s definitely took on a more mature vibe. Sometimes the best way to show off a group’s skills is through individual expression, and IVE painted a clear image of their own strengths.
The second section was, aesthetic-wise, a complete 180 compared to the first. The girl group donned all-white dresses with angel wings to complete the look. Songs like “WOW” and “Off The Record” were filled with bubbly beats and citypop funk that put natural smiles on everyone’s faces. If IVE was aiming for a devil versus angel concept, they clearly succeeded.
Now, at this point, what more could the Korean-based band have in store? Two words: runway ready.

Shedding their white outerwear unveiled a glamorous and glittery top finished with almost knee-high black boots. If you’ve ever watched a single episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race, this was IVE’s audience-awing, challenge-winning reveal. The six-member girl group topped off their iconic setlist with “BANG BANG,” whose lyrics “I be going out with a bang” are a fitting ending for a memorable evening. As the encore came and went, IVE waved goodbye to adoring DIVES and promised to come back next time.
IVE continues their second world tour through North America and Asia, finishing off next month. You can support the group and check out their music on all streaming platforms.
