Laufey finished her Texas tour dates of her first arena tour “A Matter of Time Tour” at the Moody on Sep 21st Center in Austin, Texas. Laufey was previously in Austin at the Bass Concert Hall for a date of her “Bewitched: The Goddess Tour” for her previous album, however, this new tour has a much larger production value. The stadium tours include an elaborate castle set as well as an extended stage which includes a large spinning clock embedded to the stage.

This tour was significantly more elaborate than the last tour (and with a price tag that shows it), including dancers, a larger orchestra section, and more instruments. A large mascot of “Mei-Mei” which is a rabbit that wears a dark blue cardigan with the word “Laufey” embroidered (Mei-Mei is an endearing term for little girl in Chinese). She had many more segments during this tour like, crowning the best dressed audience member from each tour date and having swing/ragtime arrangements of her songs.

Suki Waterhouse opened the show for the night. Suki brought a very different dynamic to the stage which still worked well with Laufey’s audience as her passion for her music really showed. She was less jazzy and much more of an 80s pop diva, she commanded the stage with a force during her opening

Laufey started the show with her album opener of Clockwork, and then lightened up the mood with Lover Girl. During the show, she masterfully variated from her more ballad/sad songs to her upbeat/jazzier songs. The songs were well accompanied with interesting visuals, with many mirrors during Snow White and ballet dancers during Carousel. Her voice is absolutely breathtaking in all of her songs, but especially noticeable in songs like Forget-Me-Not and Goddess. She included remixes of some of her songs to be like as if they were played at a jazz club which was a very fun addition for her jazz fans.

The “Best Dressed” Audience member was a beautiful red head that Laufey mentioned that she had seen previously at the show on TikTok. She was wearing a medieval inspired green dress with long flowing sleeves and a large cone with the veil having the words “A Matter of Time” embroidered.

Every tour date gets a special song that was not included in the original set list. Austin got Haunted as their special song which is from her sophomore album “Bewitched”. After the first chorus, Laufey bantered with the audience as she forgot the words to the second verse of the song. The Austin audience very gladly provided the words to the song.

The show was incredible, even with the large venue, her music felt incredibly personal and made many of the audience members shed a tear. The show remains one of my personal favorites of this year and will hope to see both Laufey and Suki come back to Texas!
