As if diving into the hazy pools of blue that saturate the single’s cover and crossing over into the dreamscape dimension of her mind, Allie Arnaez’s new song, "Dimension," floats in the retrospection of a past love, and the fantasy of making it work in an alternate timeline. Rooted in the R&B and pop genres that Allie Arnaez is known for, her vocals are similar to musicians like Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, or SZA, utilizing the emotional soul melodies and hip-hop adjacent beats particular to the R&B genre with a catchy pop chorus.

An inside look at the press release reveals the instinctive approach to Arnaez’s and Waverly’s song-writing, as it came to fruition in real time. Branching off from the self-assured attitude and lively, upbeat chorus and rhythm of her previous single, “He a Fan,” she swims into the uncharted waters of what could have been. Arnaez mourns a loss in her lyrics, traversing her dreams to reminisce over her connection to another person, “cause when my head hits the pillow / the image of you and me / in a parallel universe, my sweet reverie / in my head I can picture just what it could be / in another dimension, us in another life.” She moves lyrically through space and time to rekindle this relationship, but it is as fantasy as a dream.
Sonically, the use of repetition through vocally spelling out the word, d-i-m-e-n-s-i-o-n, keeps the beat in the listeners head, like a childhood lullaby that one commits to memory. Thematically contrary to playful examples of this, such as Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl,” or Ariana Grande’s “NASA,” (a noted inspiration for Arnaez), this single touches at the desire to live in her fantasy while simultaneously coping with its improbability. The longing expressed in this single is tonally different from its influences, implementing strong high notes and steady, soft background vocals which add to the surreal atmosphere of its sound and setting.
The opening lo-fi instrumentals transition into a beat-drop with hyper hip hop elements, and the likeness of video-game sound chips through the background twinkling and bitcrushed voices come together to define the overall pop genre that the song lives in. The attention to detail in every layer of “Dimension” allows the listener to daydream and drift into a transcendental omniverse alongside Allie Arnaez, where there is still hope that desire will be fulfilled. Like other creative films, songs, and artwork exploring the multiverse and escapism that the modern day person is drawn to, Arnaez uses her narrative to consider alternate possibilities, providing listeners with the option to dream rather than face reality.
