Francene Rouelle Drops Single “mr too perfect” Ahead of Debut Album
Written by Jonathan "V" Villanueva | July 13, 2025
After a two month hiatus from releasing music, up-and-coming pop artist Francene Rouelle returns with “mr too perfect,” a lo-fi pop ballad with just a tinge of heartache.
Rouelle takes you on a journey with a somber, synthy love song that feels not quite like grief, but a soft ache for something you know is coming to a close. Her voice is emotive and delicate, teetering on the edge of tears, willing herself to keep control and keep fighting. This is paired with dreamy, ephemeral synths that feel like a memory. The soft, reverbed guitar that builds into a symphony of emotion, overflows over lyrics that paint a picture of a loving relationship entering a rocky stage it might not survive.

Sometimes, despite how right things may seem, you can’t shake the feeling that something’s wrong. Rouelle is drowning in doubt, and “mr too perfect” doesn’t have that frame of reference. She tells us, “I want you to see me, but you don’t, all you can do is understand,” and even though the goal is the same, understanding what someone is going through is not the same as knowing—and that little difference can make or break a relationship. It’s heartbreak in slow motion, and no matter how hard you try, sometimes it isn’t enough.
In this way, “mr too perfect” is the embodiment of anxious attachment. When you’re anxious about something going wrong, and your partner isn’t, it can make things worse. In some cases, that means more anxiety. In others, it becomes resentment. She’s fighting for this to work, but deep down she knows it won’t—and still, she hopes. It is that yearning and anguish that really resonated with me, and as this summer ends, I can certainly say: I’m hooked and looking forward to what’s next.
If “all the things i do” and “mr too perfect” are any indication of what Francene Rouelle’s debut album is going to be like, she could be carving her own lane in the pop landscape. Keep your eyes out, Austin locals! If you’re a fan of bedroom pop, heartbreak, and longing, this is the artist for you. It’s easy to imagine her alongside Sabrina Carpenter on your fall playlists. Be sure to catch Off the Carousel when it debuts August 1st, 2025—don’t miss out!
