Kinsley Captivates Audience with Performance at Mohawk

The night of April 7th was a perfect one. The temperature was not too cold, not too hot, just right. There could not have been a better night for Sarah Kinsley’s show at Mohawk as part of her tour celebrating her new EP Fleeting.
Mohawk was absolutely packed for Kinsley’s performance. It was hard even just finding room to walk in some areas. The crowd roared in excitement as music swelled and Kinsley’s band appeared onstage to tune their instruments. Moments later Kinsley ran enthusiastically onto the stage with a big smile on her face. She didn't waste any time jumping into her first song and performed a few before stopping to thank the audience.
Kinsley told the audience that this was maybe her fifth time performing in Austin and that she keeps, “coming back for a reason,” because the audience is always so welcoming and kind. Kinsley showed her excitement to be performing at Mohawk and even commented on how nice it was to be outside.
Throughout the night Kinsley showed off her many talents as she took up different roles onstage. At first, she simply stood at the microphone, dancing along to the music with graceful movements. Next, she moved to the back corner of the stage where a keyboard was set up. After she was back up front with an electric guitar in her hands, headbanging to the beat.
Kinsley’s music carries a dreamy quality. At times it was upbeat and had the audience bouncing along but other times the entire crowd was at a standstill, captivated by Kinsley’s angelic vocals. No one seemed to even notice when it began to sprinkle. Kinsley’s performance of “After All” was especially captivating. The band took a step back at this point of the set and Kinsley performed a few songs solo, accompanying herself on the keyboard.
It seemed there wasn't a single song that the crowd didn't know the words to. About halfway through her set, Kinsley spoke about how she fell in love with the idea of working hard to become a musician and play shows while in Austin watching other musicians.
Kinsley creates music that clearly touches people, as evidenced not only by the large turnout to her show but also by the audience’s reactions to her performance. The crowd was singing along and shouting their appreciation throughout the entire set. It was impossible to turn a corner in the venue without seeing another group of people dancing to the music. Just as Austin is special to Kinsley, Kinsley is clearly special to many in Austin.
