On a particularly chilly day in Austin, a slew of bands and artists took the stage for an all-day, outdoor music celebration at HOPE Outdoor Gallery, an art park based in Southeast Austin.

Despite being an art gallery, the place turned into a makeshift performance space through the power of a mobile music van. Yes, you read it right Vancerts, is a newly established concert production company that is entirely mobile and brings artists to unconventional venues. According to their website, the idea was born in 2020 as a bold concept to bring music to people in the midst of the pandemic, when traditional venues were shut down. 2026 marks their fourth year of producing “It’s a Van Fest,” a local music festival in collaboration with several Austin businesses, including BYOB Austin, High Noon, Blue Owl Brewing, and more.

Set against the backdrop of vibrant, painted walls were two artists who made the space theirs: Juju B. Goode and Turbo Goth.

Juju B. Goode, whose real name is, Juhwan Park, is a singer and producer originally from South Korea. Juju released his first EP in 2020, Future Boy, and since then, has left his mark in the industry; more recently, he lent his voice to the Netflix show, Xo Kitty, with an electronic-infused remix of Tears For Fears’, “Everybody Wants To Rule The World.”

Before starting his set, the indie artist humbly introduced himself to everyone, offering free stickers. After making his rounds, Juju then took his place and calmly launched into a medley of songs throughout his discography. One of his first numbers, “Sweet Sonora,” was a western-esque, groovy tune that was almost reminiscent of 90s indie pop. This ability to both blend and defy genres seems to be a defining trait of his artistry. Taken from his Spotify bio, “Juju blends bilingual lyrics and nostalgic feels into stories and songs that take you to Disco nights, open roads, and maybe even somewhere within.” That was certainly felt, as the LA-based singer seemed to magically transform the industrial outdoors into a cozy, intimate coffee shop.

The combination of his velvety vocals with the bright sunlight that illuminated the space made the atmosphere dream-like. Throughout the set, Juju was a man of few words. He let his songs set the mood, making the time fly by.

The Korean singer ended with “Cameo,” a song off his debut album Smile! You’re on Camera, a song that sounds like the end of summer and the beginning of new relationships. The distortion of the vocals adds to the sentimentality, which is why it felt like the perfect track to end on.

After Juju B. Goode bid farewell to Austin, ending his first Texas trip on a high note, the music continued. If Juju were a soothing balm to our ears, then Turbo Goth was like a clap of thunder on a cloudless day.

Turbo Goth is a NYC-based electronic-rock duo hailing from the Philippines, composed of lead vocalist, Sarah Gaugler and guitarist and electronic samplist, Paolo Peralta. With nearly two decades of experience, they are no stranger to the international music scene. Since 2014, the duo has made appearances at South by Southwest (SXSW) and, most recently, has joined the “It’s a Van Fest” for the second time in a row.

Despite technical issues, Turbo Goth smoothly led everyone through familiar songs such as “Venus Flytrap” and “Law of Love,” which were crowd-pleasers. However, what stood out were the unreleased songs that they prepared specially for this year’s SXSW. One of those songs is called “Golden Hour,” which is a grungy, reverberating track about the fleeting, but precious moments of life.

“It’s actually the timing, it’s perfect because the song is called, ‘Golden Hour’ and we’re standing in it right now,” said Gaugler. “I always say during this song that we only have approximately 4,000 weeks in a lifetime[...] so that’s why I value everyone’s time here.”

While Turbo Goth lived up to their reputation for putting on energetic and dynamic performances, it was their zest for life and gratefulness to be in the moment that made them a standout band. It was like being part of an intimate house party with old friends.

Gaugler’s angelic vocals flowed like water, and Peralta was one with his guitar, rocking out like nobody was watching. With a final riff, Turbo Goth ended their performance with cheers and applause from the audience. The duo stayed on to meet fans and thanked everyone for coming to the last show of their Texas run.

You can listen to both Juju B. Goode and Turbo Goth on Spotify and keep up with their latest performances on their social media. Don’t miss out on the chance to catch “It’s A Van Fest” next year in Austin.
