Sun Chasers, the newest addition to More Than Music’s growing summer series, delivered the kind of immersive beachside experience that feels like it was pulled straight from a postcard. Hosted at La Tika on Zaimokuza Beach in Kamakura, the event brought together live music, ocean views, and a warm, easygoing crowd, who were somehow untouched by the typhoon warnings announced a few days before. Instead, the day offered clear skies, a light ocean breeze, and summer sun shimmering across the water.
What made the event especially memorable was its blend of relaxation and energy. Guests floated between lounging at tables, grabbing frozen drinks, or stepping right into the ocean while still within earshot of the performers. Some rested with their feet in the sand as bands played just a few meters away. Others took full advantage of the dance floor, which turned into a spontaneous limbo contest after someone brought out a pole—one of many moments that captured the playful spirit of the day.
The music lineup set the tone. Acts such as Indus & Rocks, Tokyo Blazin’, and The Rolling Papers delivered a mix of indie, funk, and soulful rock that complemented the beachfront setting. One of the standout performances came from SHAMANZ, whose set featured saxophone, trumpet, and even wind chimes woven into their arrangements. These elements created an atmospheric soundscape that blended seamlessly with the sound of crashing waves and the distant chatter from the beach. The brass instruments echoed beautifully across the sand.
Food vendors were nearby, serving icy kakigori with bright fruit syrup, along with savory snacks and beers that attendees could grab between sets. The proximity of the music, water, and refreshments made it easy for guests to roam freely and enjoy the day at their own pace. Whether someone wanted to swim, dance, or just sit back and soak it all in, Sun Chasers made space for every version of summer enjoyment.
The crowd represented a wide range of ages. Groups of friends in summer outfits danced near the stage, older music lovers sat with drinks by the water, and families came out to enjoy the atmosphere. The beach transformed into a vibrant little community of people who may not have known each other before, but were clearly sharing a collective experience.
More Than Music was founded by Justin and Atsuko, who welcome newcomers with such kindness and warmth that even first-time guests feel like part of something familiar. Established in 2013, the organization has grown from underground shows in Tokyo into a cultural platform built on community, connection, and the joy of live music. Attendees can either purchase tickets for individual events or become part of the community as monthly members, which grants unlimited access to all shows. This is a great option for music lovers who want to immerse themselves in the scene more regularly.
More Than Music events are not just concerts, but spaces where people feel comfortable, connected, and creatively inspired. Events like Sun Chasers reflect more than entertainment—they reflect a lifestyle: inclusive, spirited, and undeniably alive.
If you ever find yourself in Tokyo and want to experience the city’s indie live scene in its purest and most heartfelt form, More Than Music events are well worth seeking out.
